Trader Joe’s Favorites

There’s a new Trader Joe’s opening in my neighborhood today. I am very excited – not excited enough to hang out in the opening day lines, but still excited.

In honor of the big day, here are my favorite gluten free things at Trader Joe’s:

1. Black licorice Scottie dogs

Gluten free black licorice can be hard to come by, and this is not only GF, but the perfect balance of sweet and bitter.

2. The selection of goat cheese

I go back and forth on which one is my favorite (kalamata! sliced! herb!) but right now, it’s the honey. I like it on this spring salad with strawberries and walnuts.

3. Gluten free brownie mix

It’s very tasty and easy to make, but if, like me, you can’t just leave well enough alone, you can doctor it up with nuts, flavored extracts, or frosting.

4. Brown rice tortillas

I’m kind of in a rut with my work lunches. Not in a bad way, I just really love chicken salad on a brown rice tortilla. Anyways, the tortillas are a little rubbery, so the trick is to heat them up – I like to microwave between two damp paper towels to steam.

5. Sparkling lime water

I like to drink these and pretend that they’re healthier than my beloved diet sodas. Dubious, maybe, but they’re tasty.

So there you have it. I’m going to go wave at the Trader Joe’s crew standing on the street waving leis now.
