How To Make Extra Crunchy Nut Butter

I wish I could take credit for this, but the idea is actually one of my fondest memories of my paternal grandpa. He had several food restrictions (but was not gluten free) and so a lot of the things I remember about him are about foods.

Anyways, he loved peanut butter the way I love almond butter, and he liked it crunchy. As in, the crunchy peanut butter from the store wasn’t crunchy enough. The first time I saw him chopping up peanuts to stir into his jar of nut butter, I thought maybe he’d bought creamy by mistake. Nope. Just making it extra crunchy.

I made some myself recently.

After I stirred in the chopped almonds (I used slivered almonds just because that was what I had in the house) the jar was too full to close the lid. That just means I had to eat a few bites off the top, right? Right.

Laura – Thanks for your comment! I love nut butters, too, but my favorite lately has been sunflower seed butter :-)

This is a great idea! I always thought that crunchy meant they forgot to process the nuts completely ;)

I love crunchy peanut butter. They should make an extra crunchy version. Or I could make my own. But I never have shelled peanuts.
